A Brief History of PETER MARIST SCHOOLS, IFITEDUNU

The vision to set up this school came as a divine mandate from the Almighty God. The cultivation of this vision started as far back as 1994 about 19 years ago, when I was in third year at the University of Nigeria Nsukka.

The school took off with just five pupils three of which were my personal children, because it was a school on God’s mandate first term 2003/2004 session the population rose up to Eighteen before the term ended. The need for a teacher was then obvious. God in this own way of doing things sent a wonderful person, miss Ifeoma Nzomiwu, Her efforts in the progress of this school can never be over emphasized. Then the school was known as Zenith Model Schools and was located at Amenyi Abagana in a two-storey building near Lion filling station. This building was rented by my husband for his hospital [Evangel Hospital] before he was called up by College of Medicine at the teaching hospital to lecture.

The School was relocated to Obieze Ifitedunu in third term same session with about (87) Eight Seven pupils in both the Nursery and Primary sections. The need for a change of name became inevitable as we discovered that Zenith had been used by other schools and business establishments, so to make for uniqueness of trade mark the name Peter Marist was chosen Peter being the proprietors name and Marist a part of my second son’s name Charles Marist.

The school applied for registration and approval in 2006 but was refused approval because we were still in temporary site. The state Ministry of Education insisted the school must be on a permanent site so, the need for a land arose, we succeeded in getting three plots of land where the proposed one storey building is located, series of education inspection was carried out and in 2009 Peter Marist Primary School was approved while the Nursery was approved in 2010.

Peter Marist College began in 2011, this college is meant to absorb our pupils who pass out from Primary School because it’s obvious that we are in the era of moral decadence, when college students engage in a lot of juvenile delinquencies, it became pertinent that we must handle and ensure they are well groomed and nurtured in the fear of God which is the beginning of wisdom.

We thank all and sundry who have in one way or the other supported the growth of the school: The teachers, The Parents Teachers council, (PTC) past and present chairmen and executives, Peter Marist Drivers Association (PMDA), Rev. Pastors and numerous others too many to be mentioned. Who have worked in the School and those who are still working to make sure that Peter Marist ever remains the hall mark of academic excellence.

Long live the proprietor
Long live the Headmistress
Long live the PTC executives
Long live the teachers
Long live Peter Marist Schools.

I will write a letter to my teacher if I must be absent from school
I will keep my books very neat and be present in all lessons
I will not go out of school without permission unless school dismisses
I will not Run, Push nor Fight with anybody in and outside the school compound
Above all I will never go to church or any religious activity without a jotter and a pencil.
Oh lord help me to keep my promises.
